Fun Dog Show:

DOG DELIGHT AT CULVERCLIFFE

Culvercliffe, by Minehead Harbour, was the perfect setting for The Brooke Hospital for Animals 'Dog Show' on Whit Sunday, May 24th. The weather was glorious, possibly a little hot for some of the dogs, who had persuaded their owners that it would be a fun day out for a good cause and provide a good walk for them along the sea front as parking was limited.

Over 160 dogs were entered in various classes ranging from the 'waggiest tail' to 'the six lovliest legs'. Both dogs and owners enjoyed the day, all behaving very well and leaving the grassy site free of all litter for which the organisers were grateful.

The Brooke Hospital for Animals Exmoor Group would like to thank all the owners and dogs who came to support this first time event, to West Somerset Council for use of the land, to Mr John Gage of Glenmore Road Veterinary Clinic for his expert judging and to Alcombe Pet Foods for generously donating the prizes.
Show organiser, Meg Sunningdale said "A 'Dog Agility Display' was an exciting attraction for the many spectators and my especial thanks go to Julie Dare and her team of expert dog handlers. Spectators were encouraged by Julie to put their own dogs over the ladders, through the tunnels and to leap over obstacles. Well done all you dogs!"

The Brooke Exmoor Group Co-ordinator, Rita Tremain added "We have never put on a Dog Show before and it was a resounding success. The proceeds will help to finance vets and animal hospitals in Africa and Asia to help sick and injured working animals which in turn will benefit the animal owners and the local economy."

This enjoyable afternoon made about £700 for The Brooke.

Pick-A-Fence Hunter Trial: BRAVE COMPETITORS DEFEAT THE WEATHER!

No-one believed me when I said the ground at Treborough would withstand the rain - and it did!

Over 100 competitors braved the rather blustery start to the day, and after a few showers the sun finally shone on the event and everyone had a fantastic day raising over £1100 for The Brooke.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers and sponsors, without whom none of this would be possible.

A great day out and made £1100 for The Brooke
